Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate the RCID interconnected electric system and coordinate activities with both internal and external entities in accordance with all NERC, FRCC and other applicable regulatory requirements. Perform the balancing of electrical demand and generation resources within the RCID balancing area utilizing tagging and transmission reservation tools. Write and execute high voltage transmission and distribution switching orders. Position is part of 9 person team that staffs the RCES Energy Control Center 24/7 with 2 operators in the room at all times. Position requires rotating 12 hour shifts.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (These are the minimum qualifications you need to be considered for the job.)
* High school degree or equivalent
* Current NERC System Operator Certification for Balancing, Interchange, and Transmission Operator OR ability for self attainment of this certification within 6 months of hire
* Proven knowledge of and ability to demonstrate understanding of fundamental theory and operation of electrical power transmission, distribution, generation, balancing, and system security.
* Proven knowledge of power system monitoring and controls including tie-line flows, system voltage and frequency, and protective relay functions.
* Proven basic knowledge of electrical safety and work rules
* Demonstrated strong verbal communication skills
* Demonstrated strong computer skills
* Demonstrated ability to function effectively in pressure situations
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's or Associate's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent
* Minimum 3-5 years experience as electrical utility system operator or similar experience in a related field
