SAFETY OFFICER
Responsibilities:
Respond promptly and appropriately to client requests for safety information.
Prepare site specific health and safety plans.
Maintain client safety requirement records and files and provide assistance with compliance.
Conduct bi-weekly safety meetings on appropriate topics for field personnel.
Conduct monthly safety meetings on appropriate topics for professional and office personnel.
Conduct or coordinate required training for site specific projects, etc.
Conduct training sessions with supervisory personnel on procedures, processes, and methods to improve safety.
Create presentation materials on appropriate safety training topics and distribute training materials to other offices.
Request feedback from employees including managers on training needs and suggestions for improving the safety program.
Track safety meeting attendance and provide participation data to appropriate manager.
Complete accident reports and obtain required documentation.
Report accidents promptly to appropriate insurance carrier and follow up on claim status until closed.
Report accidents and near misses promptly to Safety Review Board and appropriate managers.
Create and distribute Lessons Learned a one to two page safety training sheet containing a description of accident or near miss, safety tips on proper techniques and accident avoidance, and appropriate pictures.
Update accurately and promptly various Excel spreadsheets including the OSHA log, injury log, vehicle accident log, Hows My Driving log, monthly accident log, etc.
Complete and submit MSHA quarterly reports on time.
Distribute manager status reports on injuries, vehicle accidents, and Hows My Driving calls.
Monitor Hows My Driving program by ensuring that procedures are followed.
Maintain accident files with required reports and documentation.
Coordinate medical surveillance program and update records as needed.
Conduct safety reviews and take appropriate follow-up steps as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Thorough knowledge of OSHA General Industry regulations.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
Effective group presentation skills.
Experience working with Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint on a regular basis.
Must be able to work well with others at all levels in a diverse work environment.
Must be able to create effective Lessons Learned and training materials.
Experience in providing hands-on defensive driving training preferred.
Experience performing similar responsibilities is required (preferably for a company in engineering or similar industry).
